Are all the same to me lately bitches. That EVDO mess was making me uber lazy at updating. I currently have somewhat more speedy if unstable at times internet thanks to about an hour of my roomates time, about 30 minutes of my time, and the developers of DD-WRT.

Since my last update I went to a few job interviews, went back and forth with a few agencies over possible jobs, and finally scored a job which I start monday. I have also been working on a script to use yahoo maps and fireeagle to make a sort of badge, hopefully being able to make a slimmed down wordpress plugin of it when I’m done.

Speaking of betas I’ve got about 5 invites for brightkite if anyone needs them, I also have Ping.fm invites and Jaiku invites. If you find yourself wanting one the rundown is like this; Fire off an email to beta[at]geekism.us and put the service you want an invite to in the subject line. All invites are first come first serve.

Updating my blog on time that is. I suck at adhering to the schedule I set for myself, especially since I only have evdo access to the internets at the moment. So since I last updated I had a job interview of sorts with a headhunting agency, I’m supposed to have a phone interview with the actual client next week(it was supposed to be this week but it got pushed back.) The place is right down the street and has perfect hours for me so I hope it works out. Hopefully I can get a job and start working before my phone gets shut off since my bank account is now empty. The lack of internets is really hitting me hard as I am unable to get much dev work done. I was wanting to work on some apps for the N810 but I don’t have the SDK installed anymore and it’s a huge download. Since the last time I posted I’ve been enjoying the social location aware sites I’m a member on, such as brightkite and plazes(also the plazes closed beta which I recently got an invite to.)

I need to add a few more pages to the blog here soon. Most likely a map for the location aware services and any geocaching I manage to get done, and also a decent contact/about page. Also needing to update the blogroll and links.

Lastly for this week, anyone going to or thinking about going to PodcampAZ registration is now open @ http://reg.podcampaz.org

Hey look, I’m updating on a tuesday. I’ve got to be up nice and early tomorrow because I have a phone interview with apple for some of the closer stores since they may be expanding soon. Haven’t been up to terrible much except for trying desperately to find a job. I really need to get logo and design crap for westcoastgeeks but haven’t been able to find much time to talk with all the designer friends. Started to help one of my friends set up a 3d design blog, need to get around to helping her finish getting it up as we kinda forgot about working on it while waiting for the hosting account to go live.

In completely unrelated news, Twitter has been starting to try my nerves. It is becoming just another friendwhoring outled. I really enjoyed twitter when it was relevant but now it is mostly people going around trying to add random people just so they have more friends, and also becoming a vessel for spam. All the retweets, overheards, conversations that should be directs messages, and linking of general crap that is already on rss feeds is really making it irrelevant very fast.

I sure do, but several corporations think they should have the say as to what you can and can’t view and transmit on the internet that you pay for and have been paying for with tax dollars since its inception. A fer congressmen with their heads on straight have decided to propose an act that would amend the communications act of 1934, previously amended in 1996. This new amendment would add a sub-section pertaining to broadband internet. It is known as HR 5353 or the Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2008. I could get into the nitty gritty of explaining the bill to you in it’s entirety but I want you to read it for yourself. The link above will open Congressman Markey’s web page with information and the Act itself. In summation the Act proposes to bar corporations from interfering with internet communications in any way and to preserve the freedom of the internet to benefit future inovators. After you read through the act please go to http://savetheinternet.com and sign the petition.

I seem to have gone awhile without posting. I think since some time last week my vacation from the internet was officially over. I haven’t been on nearly as much lately thanks to the new job and commute time but I will try to stick to the posting schedule after this week so things don’t get all messy again.

Work is going well, pretty frustrated at nokia though as my developer code worked, then they ran out of n810s so I didn’t get a chance to buy mine, and now my developer code doesn’t work. There is no way in hell I am going to pay full price for an N810, if my developer code doesn’t work the next time I have money and they are in stock I am not going to buy one and I am going to cancel all projects I am working on for the device. This has just been one long headache.

Westcoastgeeks.org home of the west coast geek conference (2009 first annual) Is going to be going live sometime in the next few weeks/months, you all know how I am with deadlines. I am currently looking for people to be on the committee for planning and such. If you’re interested email a proposal to acydlord@westcoastgeeks.org

http://mashable.com/2007/11/23/is-the-listener-license-coming/

Article like this really piss me off. The people that we supposedly vote in to office pander to the pockets of large corporations instead of serving the people, corporations and governments meddle in the affairs of the internet which I may note is practically a country of it’s own now. When the government no longer gives a shit about it’s constituents and instead exercises the will of corporation for profit something is severely wrong. With all regard I love this country and what it is supposed to stand for but there comes a day when you just have to say fuck this shit and take a stand. So for the entire year of 2008 I am not going to rent a single movie, go to a single movie theatre, I will not buy a single cd or even a single song from an online store. I will not attend the concert of any artist signed to a label in any way associated with the riaa. I will download movies and cds I don’t even watch just to upload them and further hurt the bank accounts of these companies. For too long they have been getting away with putting viruses on our internet, rootkits on our cds and dvds. They want to dictate how we watch and listen the media that we pay for time and time again. Fuck them. It is time to enact change, so get out there and vote, hijack a server, punch a ceo in the taint, do whatever it takes. I hate to quote an old credo here, but information should be free, no one owns the data. It is not their place to say what we can and can’t do with it.

So I decided to scrub and reinstall on the file/backup server cause it was having some problems stemming from the methods in which I installed ubuntu on it. I was running the install on it, set up the partitions and everything when I realized there used to be two main partitions on it. So, just as i am about to click on commit changes I decided to reboot a low and behold I remembered I switched from seperate partitions to a root shared folder. I am currently in the process of transferring a metric fuckton of files to a drive I had to delete about 150gb of video files off of. Looks like the install is pushed back ~6 hours while I wait for the backups to transfer to their new home.

So as of last thursday I headed my happy ass out to go camping up in Payson. It was a good fun time, burned lots of logs, shot some guns, went for a nice long hike and found a place we may go backpacking to next time we go camping. I wound up spending a few days out at my grandparents’ house after I got back to town. Finished transfering pwnbeer.com last week and still need to work on the wiki intergration and need to get a logo so I can start theming. Podcamp AZ is coming up in a week and a half and I am excited since I will get to meet a ton of awesome people from the internets there.

Nokia N810 is due out soon, as well as OS2008 which I will swiftly upgrade my N800 to. I applied for a developers discount for the 810 since it would go nicely with my geocaching program i’ve been working on as well as some other projects I have planned for the near future, I hope that works out in my favor. I think thats about it for this week.
